Originally, a British owned company which went into liquidation, was taken over by Government of India in 1975 and subsequently acquired by Government of Gujarat in 1994. It is now a Government of Gujarat fully owned shipyard.
The company has become a major centre for ship building, ship conversion and overhauls projects.
Alcock Ashdown is engaged in the design and construction of seagoing grade steel vessels for various purposes as well as inland and coastal class ships and boats in steel or FRP. It has in-house technical expertise and two well equipped manufacturing yards with state-of-the-art infrastructural facilities at Bhavnagar and Chanch in Gujarat state of India.Chanch has the largest dry dock on the northwestern coast of India with direct access to the sea.
